About Us

AmericasBookShelf.com was founded by husband and wife, Bill and Deb Denkler of rural Minden, Nevada. Together with their passion for all works of literature, helping book lovers share their books and wanting to do something beneficial for the environment, AmericasBookShelf.com evolved. It became apparent to them that every home in America has a wide variety of reading materials from classics, to the latest best sellers, adventure or mysteries and children's books.

Together they have made the sharing of books as convenient and easy as possible, while keeping it affordable no matter where you live. They also want to, in some small way, put reading back into our daily lives.

Bill and Deb feel that AmericasBookShelf.com will help recycle books that are already in every American's home. There are over 65,000 new books published in this country annually. For every 65 books exchanged between the members, a tree is saved. This means that pulp and paper mills will be depleting our ozone layer less, and our rivers are healthier. AmericasBookShelf.com uses recycled envelopes and office supplies. To offset the company's impact of its environmental footprint, AmericasBookShelf.com purchases renewable energy credits from www.nativeenergy.com.

By utilizing the World Wide Web we can make literature easily accessible at any time, any place, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AmericasBookShelf.com members have more freedom to enhance their access to the variety of books that American's are reading.

To promote literacy in America we only need to change our lifestyle a little. Through the mirroring of behaviors, our children will gain a higher education when they see us read and when we read to them, thus expanding their minds to be more imaginative and knowledgeable. The average American spends 1600 hours annually watching television. Why is this? Reading a book is less stressful and a great escape, with no commercials.

"Wake up and Read" was a program initiated in the 1950's. What happened to it? Sharing books has never been easier. Let's all wake up and read.
